I grew up in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of Central New York and currently reside in the Washington, DC, metro area where I am an art conservator in private practice. Current and former clients include the Smithsonian Institution, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Peabody Essex Museum, and private collections.
My education background includes a MA and Certificate of Advance Study in Art Conservation from Buffalo State College, and a BFA in Art Restoration and Associate's degree in Photography from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. A second Associate's degree in Arts and Sciences (studio art and chemistry) was earned at Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland.
During graduate school I specialized in objects conservation, with an emphasis on archaeological and cultural heritage materials. I also completed coursework that encompassed the history and technology of works of art, material science, preventive conservation, and photographic documentation using visible, infrared, ultraviolet, digital x-radiography, multispectral imaging (MSI), and reflectance transformation imaging (RTI). I also have specialized training in project management, class IV Nd:YAG lasers, photogrammetry techniques, ATR-FTIR, pyrolysis-GC/MS, XRF, Raman spectroscopy, SEM-EDS, PLM, microfadeometry, and accelerated aging.
Through my love of travel and archaeological materials conservation, I have participated in several fieldwork conservation projects including the El Kurru Archaeological Project in North Sudan (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the National Preserve of Tauric Chersonesos in Sevastopol, Ukraine (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Athenian Agora in Athens, Greece, and the Josiah Henson Park in Bethesda, Maryland.
